Sitka 2013

In June 2013 the Rubens Quartet was quartet-in-residence at the Sitka Summer Music Festival in Alaska. Sitka is an island in the south of Alaska, and violinist Paul Rosenthal started an annual summer festival there in 1972. We played an enormous amount of wonderful chamber music there, including works of Dutilleux, Roukens, Brahms, Bartok, Stravinsky, Chopin and Mozart with such artists as cellist and artistic director Zuill Bailey, pianist Natasha Paremski, violist Kirsten Docter and cellist Melissa Kraut.

When we weren't playing concerts or rehearsing, we were greatly enjoying the breathtaking landscapes and nature (the volcano Mt. Edgecumbe, eagles, whales, bears) and the delicious food (wild crab, halibut, white king salmon...)
